Distribution of Magelona species (Polychaeta: Magelonidae) in the German Bight (North Sea): a modeling approach

چکیده
The aim of the present study was the development of species-habitat models for four Magelona species (Polychaeta: Magelonidae) found in the German Bight in the SE North Sea. Analyses were based on field data and data obtained from reexamination of material deposited in museum collections. In addition, data on environmental variables were retrieved from the sediment map by Figge (1981) and from long-term monitoring data sets. The statistical modeling technique applied was multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS). Predictive accuracy measures were calculated for each model. The candidate model with highest discriminatory power was selected for

Seals at sea: modelling seal distribution in the German bight based on aerial survey data
The Wadden Sea is an important habitat for harbour seals and grey seals. They regularly haul-out on sandbanks and islands along the coast. Comparably little is known about the time seals spend at sea and how they use the remainder of the North Sea. Yet, human activity in offshore waters is increasing and information on seal distribution in the North Sea is crucial for conservation and managemen...
متن کاملSpatially-Resolved Influence of Temperature and Salinity on Stock and Recruitment Variability of Commercially Important Fishes in the North Sea
Understanding of the processes affecting recruitment of commercially important fish species is one of the major challenges in fisheries science. Towards this aim, we investigated the relation between North Sea hydrography (temperature and salinity) and fish stock variables (recruitment, spawning stock biomass and pre-recruitment survival index) for 9 commercially important fishes using spatiall...
متن کاملDistribution Modeling of Bigeye Tuna (Thunnus obesus Lowe, 1839), Using Satellite Derived Environmental Variables in Indian Ocean
Understanding effects of environment on the distribution of economic fish is a fundamental step in the ecosystem-based management and ultimately a standard approach in management policies. Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) is one of the most important aquatic species harvested in the Indian Ocean. The present study investigated the association of different variables effecting the rate of catch and d...
متن کاملA Metabolic Model for the Ocean Quahog Arctica Islandica—effects of Animal Mass and Age, Temperature, Salinity, and Geography on Respiration Rate
Owing to its extraordinary lifespan and wide geographical distribution along the continental margins of the North Atlantic Ocean, the ocean quahogArctica islandicamay become an important indicator species in environmental change research. To test for applicability and ‘‘calibrate’’ the Arctica-indicator, metabolic properties of A. islandica specimens were compared across different climatic and ...
متن کاملDiversity of the genus Terebellides (Polychaeta: Trichobranchidae) in the Adriatic Sea with the description of a new species.
Based on specimens collected during the sampling campaigns in the Northern Adriatic from 2003-2010, the diversity of genus Terebellides (Polychaeta; Trichobranchidae) was studied and three species are reported for the Northern Adriatic Sea: Terebellides gracilis Malm, 1874, Terebellides mediterranea spec. nov., and Terebellides stroemii Sars, 1835. Terebellides stroemii was the only species pre...
